the dust Mite- the real enemy

The mattress is a perfect breeding ground for dust mites. Bacteria infested flakes of dry skin (we all shed skin) that build up on the mattress offers the dust mite a rich source of on going food, enhancing their rate of reproduction. research has shown that the normal body sheds as much as 3-5 grams of skin flakes every day. that's almost 4-5 pounds a year.

Up to 2500 dust mites have been counted in as little as one gram of dust. This computes to there being as many as 1 million+ dust mites in a regular, standard mattress.

The problem is not the dust mite itself, but more accurately what the dust mites excretes. The compound they excrete is called Guanine and all of the scientific evidence to date indictes that this is a leading cause of allergies and the resulting problems associated with them such as asthma, bronchitis, inflamation of the mucous membranes, red, itchy eyes, sneezing, coughing, headaches, depression and a whole host of other allaergic reactions.

The typical dust mite produces 200 times its body weight in excrement during its normal life span. this excrement (Guanine) adheres to the fibers in the mattress fabric as tiny mucous coated balls. Later, it decomposes into a fine powder.

Every time someone moves around in bed the microscopic dust mite excrement becomes airbourne and enters the breathing passages.

House dust mites, scientific name Pryoglyphidae, were discovered in large numbers in household dust in studies that begun in the early sixties. During 1962, the University of Leiden in Holland initiated a series of studies of the dust mite and began associating their presence with allergic conditions and adverse reactions to the body. since that time, continuing research has been conducted which further supporsts these claims that indeed, the tiny dust mite (approximate size 0.5MM and invisible to the naked eye) is and continues to be a serious problem to the hundreds of millions of people, especially those susceptible to allergies.

Dust mites are a hardy little bug. they have a life span of 60 to 150 days depending on conditions. To date know natural living enemy of the household dust mite has been discovered.

Virtually all scintist who have studied the dust mite have come to the same conclusion; the guanine excreted by the dust mites represent a serious health risk. especially to people with allergies, even those that are in their simplest and almost undetectable form. In acute cases, an allergic reaction may lead to difficulty breathing and to pulmonary arrest.

The various forms of bacteria (singular Bacuillus) found in bedding can also cause many forms of disease that have been found in many cases to be extremely resistent to even the most advanced forms of antibiotics.

Viruses of this class od micro-organisms are classified as pathogens which medical science has proven are a contribting cause to many types of infectious diseases, often accompanied by fever. The fact is that many of the viruses have become even more aggressive in the past several years.

Spores spread in the form of fungi. they can also contribute to causing disease, particularly infection of the skin which can be very difficult to treat
